VP Engineering/Business Unit Manager

Synopsis: Tri-Tec is searching for an experienced Vice President of Engineering/Business Unit Manager to join our team building and testing valve actuator products for marine applications. In this role, you’ll be responsible for managing the day-to-day and long-term operations of the business unit, managing profit and loss accountability, developing business unit production methods, contract negotiations, developing and maintaining customer relationships, and overseeing operating activities to ensure cost objectives are met. In this position, you must develop action plans to attain established goals with results showing up in monitored measurements.

This role supports the development, manufacturing, and deployment of valves and valve actuators installed aboard current and future US Navy Destroyers, Frigates and Aircraft Carriers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Drives all functional aspects of operational unit through cross functional team. This includes supply chain, customer management, personnel, cost improvements, shop floor management, etc.
  • Achieves business unit performance goals and objectives including Quality, Delivery, Productivity, and Budget Performance.
  • Develops annual and long term business plans for the business unit
  • Manages inventory control to maximize productivity and minimize cost
  • Establishes, and maintains relationships with customers
  • Builds a strong partnership with operations to make sure that cost goals are met, customer needs are prioritized, and quality issues are resolved
  • Prepares and executes a comprehensive Annual Business Unit Plan
  • Creates and manages annual budgets
  • Partners with the sales team to support business growth and customer retention
  • Collaborates with engineering departments to achieve cost and safety standards
  • Communicates with all departments to ensure performance against established metrics
  • Ensures compliance with all federal and state laws
  • Provides clear direction and priorities for assigned business unit direct reports
  • Monitors daily operating performance versus targets.
  • Maintains and improves housekeeping, safety, and production issues.
  • Prepares and presents monthly operating results to management.
  • Reviews forecast levels to determine required changes in the forecast by department.
  • Develops action plans for cost reductions and performance improvement.
  • Performs formal monthly safety and housekeeping tours.
  • Implements initiatives to continuously improve the team responsiveness to customer/business needs, including but not limited to, quality and on-time product
  • Responsible for contract review and negotiations
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in design and engineering for a manufacturing environment
  • Broad business knowledge: sales, engineering, finance and operations
  • Ability to obtain secret clearance (active secret clearance preferred)
  • Must be a U.S. person due to defense department contracts.
  • Sound communication skills: verbal, written, and interpersonal.
  • Mature time management and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to represent company in an appropriate and professional way in commercial settings.
  • Ability to drive change from concept to completion across functional boundaries.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Data-driven with an eye toward detail
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple items
  • Strong leadership abilities, including high accountability
  • Solid business acumen
  • Passion for customer satisfaction.
  • Experience with Profit and Loss statements
  • Familiarity with FAR/DFAR
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • M.S. in Mechanical Engineering
  • Active Secret Clearance
  • PMP Certification
  • Navy experience or exposure

Pay Range: $130,000 - $150,000.
